Assignment 11 - Rim Light

Now that you know how to work with an external flash, I'd like you to try another technique called Rim Light.  Think of it as a group endeavor and play around with the idea, creating at least two final works apiece.  You will need to all work together on this and I suggest the photo studio...

...and yes, use a tripod.

Due:  January 23, end of class.

Assignment 10 - The Power of Three: Body Triptych

 Christine Janak

David Galstyan

Triptychs are often associated with altars, with narratives, and with understanding the whole of something by viewing the parts.  In this assignment you will be creating a triptych using a human body, taking three powerful images (that could and should have the ability to "live" alone), and ultimately combining them in the form of a triptych you'll create in Photoshop.

Be creative in your visual thinking.  I'm not looking simply for nice images of parts of a body, but imagery that shows creative thinking and takes the viewer into a new space.

Black and white, sepia, or selective coloring.

Image size is up to you but the three "parts" should not only work together but be able to stand on their own.

Assignment 9 - The Invisible Black Background meets the Perfect Portrait

Photography by Paul Van Allen

Some of the most gorgeous portraits look like they've been shot in a studio setting with professional lighting equipment and great cameras.  Not necessarily so.  In this assignment you'll be creating your own amazing portraits outside, with only your camera and a light box.  The link below will take you through the step-by-step instructions on how to create the light; your task is to make the portrait memorable, and not just a class assignment.

Due date:  January 12
